Coaching: what can it do for you?

You’ll probably have heard of the concept of business and executive coaching before, but perhaps aren’t sure exactly what it is and how it could help you. Coaching can be an incredible way to help improve your business and you as a leader. It allows you one-on-one hands-on attention with someone who is there exclusively to help you and your business succeed, and who wouldn’t want that?

“Recent studies show business coaching and executive coaching to be the most effective means for achieving sustainable growth, change and development in the individual, group and organisation” – HR Monthly

There are so many different benefits to coaching. Here are just some of them:

1. Coaching allows you to identify, recognise and discuss your work related problems with your coach

Often it’s hard to recognise problems ourselves without the input and perspective of another person. Coaches are trained to be able to help you identify what your problems are, what is holding you back and anything else that’s keeping you and your business from reaching its full potential.

Sometimes when you’re too close to something you’re unable to see problems as others would. Good coaches have an objective point of view and are able to quickly identify problem areas that perhaps you might not have been able to see.

2. With a coach you’re able to explore ways of dealing with challenges that might be very different from your usual approach

Think of the old saying ‘if you always do what you’ve always done, you will always get what you’ve always got’. You won’t get anywhere if you keep doing things in the same way and expect a different result.

A coach will help you identify clear measurable objectives that you can work towards. Having measurable objectives means you can easily see if your coaching is providing the return that you want.

3. Coaching allows you to spend dedicated, focused time working on you and your business, rather than in it

As a business owner, CEO or entrepreneur your role is to lead your business to success, and you can’t effectively do that if you don’t spend enough time planning to succeed.

Coaching allows you to set aside time, give yourself some headspace to think about your challenges and use your coach as a sounding board for your ideas. This can help you to become clear about the direction in which you wish to take your business and how best to do that.

Working on your business and looking at it from a fresh perspective can leave you feeling more motivated and better prepared to move forward and deal with any future challenges.

4. A coach acts as an accountability partner

An experienced coach will hold you accountable for your actions (or lack of actions!). They will help you explore why you may not have implemented actions that you had identified as necessary to take you forward.

When you know someone else is depending on you to take the steps you’ve identified it can propel you to move forward instead of procrastinating. If you do continue to put off moving forward they can help you work through what barriers you are creating for yourself in your head from doing so. They’ll help you turn these barriers into more empowering beliefs to enable you to propel yourself forward.

Coaching can be flexible around your busy lifestyle. Most coaches will work with you remotely via Zoom or similar. This makes it easy to fit into your schedule and means you can still benefit from coaching if you’re pushed for time and struggling to fit everything in.

Does coaching sound like exactly what you need to move forward towards greater success, growth and improvement?
